One of the most powerful ways to change your life is to change your mindset.

Seriously.

It’s free.

It’s completely under your control.

No need for Boxing Day sale crushes or pesky returns because it’s the wrong size.

No need for anyone’s permission.

No need for anyone else to change.

And one of the most powerful mindset shifts you can gift yourself this new year is this: even a small step toward burnout recovery can be powerful.

Why?

Because if you’re willing to take one imperfect step toward improving things for yourself, the step after that is even easier. It’s cumulative.

Burnout is not a sign of your personal failure.

Rather, it’s a KEY SIGNAL that you can use to reimagine what your health, family, and career will be.

Feelings of burnout happen early for a reason–the feelings give you a chance to change your course. But don’t ignore the signal!

Have you ever looked back at your long years of training, then looked forward and projected a cookie-cutter copy of the last 5 years…

till your retirement?

till the mortgage is paid?

till the kids grow up?

till…eternity?

If what you see feels bleak, you’re not alone. As my husband says “it’s ECHO and stress tests every day.” You can just feel the piles of paperwork and bloodwork reach up and past the horizon.

And unlike a pandemic, a critical health diagnosis, or the death of a loved one–feelings of burnout can still be dealt with in a safe container.

The trick is to not ignore burnout, but to make the signal your friend.

Feelings of burnout and overwhelm are there to protect you as long as you’re willing to pay attention. And paying attention means you’ve already taken the first step.

Question: “are you ready to pay attention to your burnout signals?”
