Your chronotype describes the patterns of time that you naturally feel most sleepy and wakeful.

When you are faced with an important deadline, what time of the day tends to be your most productive and energetic?

Do you thrive best at night time when everyone else is asleep? Does the golden hue of your reading lamp and the flickering blue lights of your laptop screen put you into hyper-creative mode?

Or do you feel a thrill when you get in a few hours of work before everyone else has woken up with only the birds chirping in the background? Maybe you feel best rested when you sleep at the same time as your kids?

Or by chance are you the type of person who gets a post-prandial burst of energy at 1 pm while everyone else is half sluggish and limping to the end of their day?

Whatever that energetic period is for you, please protect it for your day’s priority. Bonus points if you put your keystone ritual in this block!

I remember trying to choose a time to meet with a colleague. I told her I preferred any time outside of 9 am to 1 pm since that was my “creative time block” and I was working on a photoessay that I needed to finish. Not only was she respectful of my preferences, she decided to adopt the same habit for herself! It had never occured to her to carve out this time for own important tasks of the day.

Even if those low mental tasks are piling up, don’t be tempted to do them during your chronotypic golden hour! That time is for you. Use it wisely.
